Bijoy Dibosh Celebration

Victory day (Bijoy Dibosh) is a national holiday in Bangladesh celebrated on December 16 to commemorate the victory of the Allied forces High Command over the Pakistani forces in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Gulshan Society commemorated Bijoy Dibosh by a colouful cultural program at the Lake Park Amphitheatre, under leadership of Cultural Committee.

The program started at 630pm in the evening and concluded at 915pm. An approximate 450 people gathered to enjoy the cultural evening. After National Anthem, there were songs and group dances adorning the program. Gulshan Society members Mr Fahim Hosen, Dr Shagufa Anwar and Ms Kaniz Fatema Tilti sang solo songs. Jhankar Lalitkala Academy child artists performed group dances to patriotic songs.

In his speech Dr ATM Shamsul Huda, talked about rejoicing on the 46th Victory Day of the nation. He talked about his own personal experience as to how he himself witnessed the discrepancy between the then West Pakistani and East Pakistani nationals. He asked all to work for reducing parity among people in the community, for which we fought in 1971.

Major (Rtd) Quamrul Hasan Bhuyian, a veteran freedom fighter spoke on the program and shared his real life stories of the sacrifice of innocent lives during the Liberation War. Cultural Committee Convener Advocate Hosne Ara Ahsan, expressed her deepest respect for the departed and living freedom fighters who fought valiantly to bring the victory for Bangladesh.

Spontaneous participation of Gulshan residents and the society members made the program lively and vibrant.
