Removal of water hyacinth from the lake

Since 2014, the Society has been trying to keep the Gulshanlake free of hyacinth in view of its lack of maintenance by its custodian RAJUK. The Lake was fully cleared by the Society during 2014-16. The Society also purchased two fiber glass boats to monitor any further growth of it. However, this arrangement seemed too little to tackle a much bigger menace. One more country boat has been purchased and two more boatmen hired. The Society has already completed cleaning the entire stretch of the lake and put the boats on constant vigil. Hopefully this will work this time and help us somewhat in combating mosquitoes in addition to spraying lervicide on lake water. Some households throw their garbage and various particles into the lake without using the services offered by the DNCC. All residents have been requested to refrain from such acts detrimental to environment and help the Society to maintain a clean environment to the benefit of all residents.
