Gulshan Society

For Serenity, Security and Better Living

Welcoming Bangla NaboBarsho

The Society reached a milestone by organizing a two day cultural event and festivity of international standard for welcoming Bangla New Year 1423on 1stBaishak ( April 13) and 2ndBaishak  ( April 14) at Westin Hotel Park. This was a festivity of gigantic proportion ever attempted by the Society or any other organization at Gulshan by assembling the best artistic talents in the country. The huge enthusiasm shown by the members of the Society and the interest taken by the residents of Gulshan was not daunted a bit by the ill-advised decision of RAJUK to cancel its permission to hold the function at the RAJUK Central Park at the last moment.

With full support from the Gulshan Society overseen by its Secretary General Barrister Omar Sadat, the program was designed and executed by Society Life Members Abul Khair, Chairman, Bengal Foundation and LuvaNahid Chowdhury, Director General  of the same Foundation. All logistic support including infrastructure, lighting, electronics and sound system was provided by Blues. The musical line-up was so orchestrated as to reflect the rich cultural diversitiesof the country and diverse tastes of different people.

The first day’s program started off with a chorus by a team from Sylhet followed by Nazrul songs rendered by ShamaRahman,KhairulAnamShakil and Iffat Ara Dewan. In the evening, Baul and folk songs by Kiron Chandra Roy, ChandanaMajumder and ShafiMajumder enthralled the audience. Next day started off with Tagore songs performed by Rizwana Chowdhury Banya and AditiMohsin. LuvaNahid Chowdhury took the audience for some time to the mystics of AtulPrasadi songs. FhamidaNabi charmed the audience by her interactive rendering of modern songs. The highlight of the evening, however, was the performance by band group JalerRong who kept the audience spell bound by the esoteric array of its musical instruments. The musical renderings were intersparsed by dance performance and instrumental music.

A few food stalls added to the attraction of the whole program. Its flawless execution, huge attendance and overall quality of the various performances left an indelible impression among the residents of Gulshan about the capacity of the Society to arrange and execute international standard progams.

The first day’s program was telecast live by RTV and was seen in many countries outside Bangladesh.
