A physician by profession, Dr. Hashem embarked on a long public service career after obtaining his MBBS and FCPS degrees. He held positions of Assistant Registrar, Registrar, Resident Surgeon, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor at different Medical Colleges. Prior to his retirement, he was occupying the position of Professor and Head of Oncology Department, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital.

Dr. Hashem had the opportunity to serve the Gulshan Society twice prior to his current position, first time as an EC Member and later on as a Joint Secretary of the EC.

Maheen Khan manages the Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh, a non-profit organisation registered with the Commerce Ministry which aims to promote Bangladeshi heritage. The organisation has held many events over the past five years to build its capacity and harness awareness towards our creative industry in Bangladesh such as the annual two day Khadi Fashion Show which unites both local and international designers in celebrating Bangladesh’s eco-friendly textile heritage.

As a director of J&J International – a property development company – Khan has overseen the company’s pioneer landmark project which is a Luxury Art Deco Residential Building in North Gulshan. This building is recognised as a leader in the green building movement with a SILVER LEED Certification, a notable structure in not only the Gulshan skyline but also Dhaka’s.

The founder of Mayasir, Khan has created a renowned Design House which produces high quality fashion pieces while supporting the local community of artisans. Through Mayasir, Khan has travelled around the world, from London to New Delhi and Copenhagen to Bali promoting her label and Bangladeshi fashion.

Alongside these ventures, Maheen Khan is passionate about an organic & ecologically green Gulshan. In the same way that she promotes ecofriendly textiles and fashion, Khan hopes that her residential community will also represent a sustainable future. She envisions a Gulshan with less pollution and more community focused green spaces to access for its residents.

Sarwat Siraj has been practicing as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh for nearly 20 years. After graduating from University of Hertfordshire in UK, she was called to the bar from Lincoln’s Inn in 1998. Sarwat is the Managing Partner of ‘Sadat Sarwat and Associates,’ the largest law firm in Bangladesh. She has served as the Treasurer of Barristers’ Association of Bangladesh for a number of years. She is one of a handful of female law practitioners in Bangladesh to enjoy the eligibility to appear before the Appellate Division, presided over by the Chief Justice of Bangladesh.

Sarwat has received Government scholarships throughout her academic career. She is a Charles William Wallace Trust Fund Scholar and former student of ViqarunNisa Noon School and Holy Cross College. During her school and college years, she won National Television Children’s Award “NotunKuri”, Shahid Motiur Memorial Award, Bishwa Shaitya Kendra Award, National Childrens Award to name a few. As the team leader of Holy Cross College Debating Team, she led her college to victory in National Television Debating Championship and Inter-College Debating Competition.

Sarwat filed a number of public interest litigations before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on environmental issues. Her pro-bono legal work to free the Dhaka footpaths from encroachment and to save the Gulshan-Mohakhali Lake have led to significant judicial interventions. As a result of Sarwat’s Public Interest Litigations, large part of Gulshan-Mohakhali Lake has been saved from encroachment and walkways were constructed along the banks of the lakes. She has been active in all programmes and initiatives of Gulshan Society for years. She conceived and proposed the idea of “Adopt a Road” programme to Gulshan Society that was executed by the Society to much public acclaim.

Sarwat has served as a resource person among others to British Council, Centre for Policy Dialogue, Bangladesh Bar Council and Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association. As a part of her engagement with the Thomson Reuters Foundation UK, Sarwat offers pro-bono legal service to victims of modern day slavery. She serves in the Boards of Trustees and Governing Bodies of numerous social, educational and religious organisations in her home district Tangail.

Sarwat is married to Omar Sadat, the immediate-past Secretary General of Gulshan Society. She is a devoted mother of two teenager boys. Her elder son Sadaqat is a student of prestigious Phillips Academy Andover, while her younger son attends American International School Dhaka. She enjoys cooking and gardening during her spare time. Sarwat is a keen golfer, avid reader and Tagore aficionado.

A freedom fighter, Captain Abdul MajedMiah got himself admitted into Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1969 but joined the Pakistan Air Force as Flight Cadet (GDP branch) in February 1970. In May, 1971 he came to Bangladesh to join the War of Liberation and served as MuktiFauz in Sector 6, After independence, he got back to Bangladesh Air Force. He left the Air Force in 1974 to become an operational pilot in the Department of Plant Protection under the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1978, he joined the Biman Bangladesh Airline as a commercial pilot and retired as DC 10 Captain in 2012. During his Biman Service, he also held important positions in management and in pilots’ Association.

Since retirement as active flying pilot, Captain Abdul Majed has been working part time as a Team Leader in Flight Data Analysis Program of Biman. He is the Director of two private commercial enterprises. He is a life member of Bangladesh Flying Academy and General Aviation Ltd and of Gulshan Joggers Society. He is also member of governing bodies of many schools and colleges in his home district of Bogra. His wife Shirin Begum is a life member of Gulshan Society and Gulshan Joggers Society. They have three sons and all are highly educated. First two sons have completed Phd. and working as professor in Australia & Canada. The third son is also a graduate in Computer Science & Aviation and is employed by Biman Bangladesh Airline as pilot of B-777 aircraft. Since 2017 he is employeed on contract as Senior Flight Inspector by Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh in the directorate of Flight Safety & Regulation.

  Advocate Hosne Ara Ahsan

 

Advocate Ahsan passed her MA and LL.B examinations from Dhaka University. She has the distinction of being the first woman to be an Assistant Attorney General of Bangladesh. She served as a Counselor at the Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow. She also worked as a Convenor of Legal Aid Committee of Jatiyo Mahila Sangstha.

For her legal background, she was enlisted as a panel lawyer of Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakha (RAJUK) and Sonali Bank. She also served as a Director of Grameen Bank. At present, she is a practicing advocate of Supreme Court of Bangladesh. She is a member of International Bar Association and American Bar Association. She has attended many conferences and ministerial meetings as member of government delegation. She is also working as Chairman of Equal Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd, Dhaka.

Mr. Mozibur Rahman Mridha, Managing Director of Mohona Properties Ltd started his venture in Real estate Industries in 2008 and international trade as country representative of some of the world reputed companies. Previously, post his degree in Economics, Mr. Mridha started his career country’s largest multinational company British American Tobacco Ltd, where he worked with reputation for almost 18 years holding various senior managerial positions. He joined another French multinational Company Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd and was a part of the leadership team. During his 26 years career as a corporate professional, he has had various certified trainings across the globe.

He is an active socialist and is involved with different trade bodies and chamber. He was elected senior Vice Chairman for Shippers Council of Bangladesh for multiple terms; he also represented the country in many international forums. He has been the General body member of FBCCI for couple of times. For his professional excellence and contribution in the socio- economic fields, he has been awarded with recognitions and certificates from home and abroad.

Mr. Mridha is happily married to Sultana Rahman who also holds the same passion for socio-economic welfare. Mr. Niaz Rahim is the Director of Rahimafrooz (Bangladesh) Ltd., the holding company of Rahimafrooz Group, one of the most trusted businesses in Bangladesh. Established in 1954, Rahimafrooz group has four broad business segments – Automotive, Power, Energy and Retail.

Having joined the family business in 1982, with a vision Mr. Rahim took the initiative in taking the batteries to the last mile across every district at that time, he had educated, supported and developed small resellers across the country into battery dealers, most of whom today are sound business persons in the SME category, and contributing to the national economy. Along with the journey he played a vital role in exporting automotive batteries from Bangladesh to almost 70 international markets in recent times, and pioneering renewable solar power solutions in Bangladesh back in the mid 1980s. Rahimafrooz IPS system – an important part of every household, was conceptualized by him to tackle the power failure. A passionate visionary by nature, he successfully established the country’s first retail chain supermarket – Agora, and instilled the concept of safe food and facilitated entrepreneurship development of many small vendors and farmers.

In addition, Mr. Rahim had launched the Center for Zakat Management (CZM) with the vision to create a new economic order, through institutionalized management of Zakat. Mr. Rahim is the Chairman Rural Services Foundation (RSF) – a not-for-profit social initiative and the RSF Model School & College, Bogura.

Mr. Rahim was the Government nominated Director of BDBL and Agrani Bank Limited. In addition he was also an active member of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI), the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI), the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) and Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF). He is currently the Vice Chairman of the first ever Village Supermarkets, in Khulna and Jessore, built by the Dutch development agency – Solidaridad and also the President of the Bangladesh Supermarket Owners Association (BSOA).

Born in September 1954 in Chittagong, Mr. Niaz Rahim is the youngest son of the late Abdur Rahim, the founder of Rahimafrooz Group, and Ayesha Rahim. He is well respected in the society for his amiable and supportive nature. His schooling was at St. Placid School, Chittagong, and Shaheen School and Notre Dame College, Dhaka. He is 2nd batch LL.B from Dhaka University and BBA from Concordia University, Canada in 1981.

Mr. Rahim is a Life Member of Bangladesh Flying Academy, the Bangladesh Scouts Federation, Gulshan Club, and Gulshan society. He is a 3rd Dan and was the National Judo champion from 1970 to 1977, also the longest serving General Secretary of the Bangladesh Judo and Karate Federation. He is happily married to Syeda Farzana Rahim and is blessed with three sons and two grand children.

ShayaanSeraj represents the third generation in the widely respected family businesses of Elite and Aqua. As Group Director, he manages two portfolios – Aqua Paints and Elite Steel. He moved back to Dhaka towards the end of 2015 after spending ten successful years in Toronto. One of his core responsibilities today is to liaise with high level architects, engineers and planners from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

He is the younger son of Ramzul and RawiyaSeraj. His paternal and maternal grandfathers are Late Serajuddin Ahmed and Late RasulNizam respectively.

ShayaanSeraj was the treasurer and general secretary of apartment owners’ associations in both Canada and Bangladesh. He mentored undergraduate students in Rotman and was a member of Transparency International Canada. Currently, he is the Country Representative for University of Toronto Alumni in Bangladesh.

As a young child, Shayaan remembers plenty of open green spaces and lakes in Gulshan. Whether rush hour or not, once upon a time, it would take 5-7 minutes to go from one end of Gulshan to the other.

In his personal life, Shayaan is married to Tajrina Mannan. She is the Creative Director and Founder of a New York based fashion brand and Group Director at Sunman. When time permits, Shayaan enjoys playing squash, reading and travelling.

Sumala Chowdhury has worked in the Development sector and helped set up one of the leading Tourism Companies in Bangladesh. She is currently working at UCEP, which is a 46 year old organisation working on education and vocational training of the under privileged children nationwide. Sumala has also worked as the Head of Innovation at iSocial- a social enterprise focused on women entrepreneurs selling relevant strategic products and services, door-door at the grassroots level.

She is the eldest daughter of renowned CSP Abdul-Muyeed Chowdhury who was also an advisor to the caretaker government in 2000. Mr. Chowdhury is the founder and first President of Gulshan Society. Her maternal grandfather, AZM RezaiKarim was a criminal lawyer who had never lost a case. Many say she has the communication skills of her grandfather and the invincible spirit of her father. Her mother, late Qudsia Chowdhury was a teacher and who taught her that a women can do anything.

Sumala is a dedicated worker. From locating unknown ancient heritage sites, to launching an online celebrity memorabilia project to working with remote communities, she has had diverse experiences. She has succeeded in everything that she has ever taken on.

Sumala has lived in Gushan since 1989, and this has been her home for nearly 30 years. She wishes to preserve Gulshan and improve its condition for all residents.

Mustafa Kamal Shaheen, an industrialist, has been in business for the past 25 years. Mustafa Kamal Shaheen has been serving as an Executive Committee Member for the Gulshan Society from 2016 till date and an active serving Member for the Gulshan Society Jame Masjid for about 6 (six) years.

Shaheen dreams of a Green, Clean, flowery and Beautiful Gulshan and thus running for the Zonal convener for Zone-5 in the upcoming Gulshan Society election to fulfill his dream of making Gulshan a beautiful place to live in for the residents.

Shaheen, as a person, loves to be in company of family and friends, he is a nature lover, a peoples’ man and is loved by his companions in business and in his social surroundings. Shaheen is the youngest son of Late Nazimuddin Ahmed and Late RabeyaKhatun. He is married to Saadia T R Kamal, currently a businessperson and an ex-British Airways personnel. Saadia was an Account Manager with British Airways Bangladesh office for 10 years. They are blessed with a daughter, Shanza Mustafiz Kamal, a Sunbeamer going to Class VIII. Engineer Shahidul Hassan by profession is a Civil Engineer. He has permanently started living in Gulshan from January 2010. He was born in a muslim family on 29 August, 1951. His Father Late Zahurul Haque was a Police Officer & Mother Late Hasmatara Hasina Zahur was a Housewife. His Grandparents were residents of Narail of Greater Jessore. His father migrated to Faridpur in early part of decade 1950. He spent his childhood in Faridpur and completed his Secondary School Education in 1967 from FaridpurZila School and Higher Secondary Education in 1969 from Faridpur Rajendra College. Subsequently he was graduated in Civil Engineering in 1975 from Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology. Immediately after graduation in 1975 he started his Carrier in Barisal as an Assistant Executve Engineer in Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority. In 1977 he changed his Carrier to Local Government Institution as an Executive Engineer in Faridpur and continued there up to January 1989 and then transferred to Dhaka District as Executive Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). Meanwhile in 1981 under British Technical Cooperation he went to England and obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Engineering in 1982. In 1985 under USAID Technical cooperation he went to Alabama, Birmingham USA and completed Postgraduate Training in Local Government Institutions. In 1990 from Dhaka District he was transferred to LGED Head Office in Agargaon, Dhaka as a Project Director and subsequently promoted to Superintending Engineer of LGED. In 1999 he was promoted to the post of Additional Chief Engineer of LGED. In the year 2000 he was promoted to the post of Chief Engineer of LGED. Chief Engineer is the Chief Executve& Head of the Organization of “Local Government Engineering Department (LGED)” – the popular Public Sector Local Level Infrastructure Building Organization in Bangladesh.

After completing full tenure he retired from government service in August, 2008 and started devoting himself in philanthropic work.

In his personal life he is married with Umme Salma Hasan. She is a housewife. They have only daughter Bushra Hassan. She is a student.
